SMART START TO COLLEGE
Mission: Closing the Academic Achievement Gap, one Child at a time while supporting the self-esteem, self-efficacy, locus of control, and emotional stability of children.
The limits that were assumedly associated with children’s capabilities do not seem to be as absolute as we once thought. Modern research has proven that it is our beliefs that are limited, not the abilities of children.
With that knowledge, and after working in corporate America for over 20 years in the legal industry I decided to walk away and follow my passion for working with children.
In 2004, I created Smart Start To College. My activities included but not limited to starting and running a successful daycare with children entering Kindergarten surpassing average expectations, serving as a panelist on related topics, and hosting seminars.
As a philomath with research skills, I sought for ways in which I could better support children. During this process, I became very intrigued by what caused some children to excel academically, while others did not. After many years of studying, I have come to understand that most children given the opportunity can accelerate past standard expectations. Thus, in 2014 I started work on an academic program that would support children reaching full potential using a conceptual approach to learning, interests and learning styles.
In the midst of creating the program, I learned about Harvard University’s “Academic Achievement Gap” initiative. This initiative discovered an opportunity gap amongst children who excelled and those who did not. The findings were that this gap is due in part to arbitrary circumstances and an inequitable system that is not providing the opportunities and support needed to thrive and succeed to every child.
The program we use at Smart Start To College is giving each child an opportunity to reach their full potential. The results are children working 6 months to 3 years above expected standards all while having fun!
I am on a mission of giving Every Child Every Opportunity by coaching children to connect conceptual thinking with learning whilst support them to become their best selves. There is no limit to what a child can do!
